The Sant Andreu Jazz Band Association is a non-profit organization, located in the Sant Andreu neighborhood in Barcelona, born as a result of the educational project of the band of the same name. A jazz orchestra founded and led by Joan Chamorro, whose objective is to create a space where young musicians can learn, grow and express themselves through the language of jazz.
They have performed concerts throughout the country, as well as in France, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, the USA, etc.
Director Joan Chamorro has shared his way of working and his philosophy around the world: Stanford University (USA), Colombia, France, Mexico, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Italy, etc.
The sample of all this work is reflected in the extensive discography that includes 14 JAZZINGS, in which great musicians such as: Scott Robinson, Scott Hamilton, Joe Magnarelli, Dena DeRose, Dick Oatts, and a long etc.
In parallel to the discography of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, Joan Chamorro has promoted a series of recordings to promote students who are acquiring a solidity as jazz musicians. The collection is called "Joan Chamorro presents..." And today 21 volumes have been released, among which are: Andrea Motis, Eva Fernández, Magalí Datzira, Rita Payés, The magic of the voice, Marc Martín, Joan Mar Sauqué Vila, Èlia Bastida, Joan Codina, Alba Armengou, Carla Motis, Joana Casanova, Jan Domènech, Marçal Perramon, Joan Martí, Alba Esteban, Presentes's Big band, Sant Andreu Reunion Band, Koldo Munné and Elsa Armengou.
In 2012 a film about the Sant Andreu Jazz Band was released, “A film about kids and Music“, by director Ramón Tort, which won more than 15 awards, some of them international.
The project has received several awards, among which the Alicia prize, awarded by the Catalan Academy of Music, is worth highlighting: Educational Project Award in Sant Andreu Jazz Band for being "referent in the training and projection of emerging talent".
This project has been an inspiration for other similar projects around the world, having formalized collaborations with the Mayeusis Foundation (Vigo) and the La Isleta Factory (Gran Canaria).
